55th Jagannath Rath Yatra Celebrated Today at Thyagraj Nagar Shri Jagannath Mandir

One of the oldest temples in Delhi and the NCR, Thyagraj Mandir has been consistently celebrating Rath Yatra for the past 54 years.

On July 1, 2022, Thyagraj Nagar Shri Jagannath Mandir celebrated Lord Jagannath's 55th Rath Yatra with customary fervour and joy. The celebrations began at 4:30 am with the Mangal Arati of the four Deities—Lord Jagannath, Brother Balabhadra, Sister Subhadra, and Shri Sudarshan—and continued throughout the day.

At 11:00 am, a unique ceremony known as "Pahandi Bije" coincides with Lord Jaganath's Yatra. The four Deities were put on the appropriate platform on the Rath in a procedure in which they were lovingly swung out of the temple one by one by the devotees and Pandas of the Mandir.

The Parton of the Mandir, Shri Sudhakar Mohapatra, a former director of Oil India Ltd., conducted another special ritual known as "Chhera Panhard." Symbolically brooming the Rath to show that everyone is equal before the Lord, whether they are the ruler or ruled.

One of the oldest temples in Delhi and the NCR, Thyagraj Mandir has been consistently celebrating Rath Yatra for the past 54 years. Rath Yatra was held inside the Mandir grounds in the years 2020–2021, even during the time of Covid–19, without the participation of devotees.

All Lord Jagannath rites have been performed at the Mandir in accord with those conducted in Lord Jagannath's main Puridham shrine. About 15–20,000 worshippers took part in the "pulling of the chariot," which started at 3 pm, during the event. The Rath passed through peacefully Shri Jagannath Marg (Bada Danda), INA Market. Kashmir Market, Rajya Sabha Employees Residential Complex and returned to the Mausi Maa Mandir which is housed within the temple complex.

Important dignitaries who attended and participated in the festival are Shri Manish Sisodia, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, Hon'ble Minister of State for External Affairs & Culture and also the local MP. (Lok Sabha), Shri Ravindra Choudhury, Ex-Chairman MCD, Smt. Seema Mallik, Hon'ble Councillor Kasturba Nagar, Smt. Savita, Gupta, Ex-Mayor, Delhi, Smt. Kusumlata. Ex-Councillor. Shri Pradeep Pahlwan, Spokesperson, Delhi BJP, Shri Madan Lal Hon'ble M.LA, Govt of NCT, Delhi, attended the celebration and participated in the "Chariot Pulling Ceremony". Several senior Govt. In collaboration with numerous volunteer organizations, including the Odisha Sanskrutik Sangathan and the INA Market Traders Association, the Mandir Management made elaborate arrangements for easy and hassle-free darshan of the Deities as well as civic facilities like drinking water, refreshment, ambulance for emergency cases, and sprinkling water on the devotees against heat and humidity.

With the help of F. M. Gouri of the Delhi Civil Defence Services and Madan Lal, Division Warden (South East), Delhi Police handled all elements of the security arrangements. The celebration was observed by Covid-19 Government guidelines, and the Mandir gave free masks to the worshippers while taking the utmost precautions to keep the procession clean and hygienic.

K.D. Biswal, General Secretary, D.N. Sahoo, Vice President, Pradyumna Palai, Pranati Biswal, and other office-bearers present oversaw the completion of the Rath Yatra procession. Pradeep Pradhan was also there. Bijayanand Samal, Abhay Palai, Mahendra Barik, Gyan Ranjan Nayak, Pravat Acharya, and Sushant Swain. Akshay Nayak, Bigneswar Biswal, and Gajendra Sahoo.
