"The farmers have grown mustard on over 5,000 bighas of land here. In addition to mustard, local farmers have grown potatoes and pumpkins. Our department has provided full support to the farmers," said Atul Bora.

Earlier on December 21, the Assam government announced in the state assembly that neighbouring states had encroached on over 82,000 hectares of the state's land.

In response to a written query from Congress MLA Debabrata Saikia, Assam Border Protection and Development Minister Atul Bora stated that Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Mizoram have encroached on a total of 82,751 hectares of Assam's land.

According to the Assam government, Nagaland has encroached on 59490.21 hectares of Assam's land, followed by Arunachal Pradesh on 16144.01 hectares, Mizoram on 3675.78 hectares, and Meghalaya on 3441.86 hectares.

According to the Assam Minister, four violent incidents have occurred along the bordering areas of Assam-Meghalaya, Assam-Mizoram, Assam-Nagaland, and Assam-Arunachal Pradesh since January 2021.

The Minister also stated that regional committees have been formed by the Assam government and its counterparts in Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya to resolve border disputes with neighbouring states, and that government-level discussions are ongoing.

"Both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh governments have formed 12 each regional committees to resolve the inter-state boundary dispute issue.

The governments of Assam and Meghalaya have also formed regional committees, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to resolve the border dispute in six dispute areas. On the other hand, government-level discussions are taking place to resolve the boundary dispute with Mizoram," Atul Bora said in a written query response.
