There are several states, which have banned bursting firecrackers, ahead of Diwali, for the pollution-free festive season. However, there are states, who have allowed the sale & bursting of green crackers (also called eco-friendly crackers) as they cause less pollution & also help suppress dust when they are burst.

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee has issued a complete ban on the sale & bursting of firecrackers till 1st January 2022.

One of its orders says that “There will be a complete ban on bursting & sale of all kinds of firecrackers up to 1.1.2022 in the territory of NCT of Delhi”.
Haryana

The Haryana government has imposed a ban on the sale or use of all kinds of firecrackers in 14 of its districts in the National Capital Region (NCR) & imposed restrictions in other parts.

The districts where a total ban has been imposed include, Charkhi Dadri, Bhiwani, Nuh, Palwal, Rewari, Panipat, Mahendergarh, Jhajjar, Karnal Rohtak, Sonipat & Jind according to the order issued by the State Disaster Management Authority.

Its order also mentions that in the areas where ambient air quality is “moderate” or better, only green crackers will b allowed for the community bursting and the crackers sale shall only be through licensed traders.
Karnataka

The Karnataka government has allowed the sale & bursting of only green crackers during Diwali and has advised people to strictly adhere to Covid-19 norms.

“Other than the green crackers that have been permitted by the Supreme Court in its directions, no other crackers can be sold or burst” an order signed by the Chief Secretary P Ravi Kumar.

Those sellers, who have taken the necessary permits from concerned departments & authorities, can only sell the green crackers. The stalls selling green crackers can be opened only between the 1st to 10th
West Bengal

The West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) earlier said that the green crackers will be allowed only on the evening of Diwali & Kali Puja for 2 hours from 8 pm to 10 pm.

Bursting of green crackers will be allowed for 2 hours on the occasion of Chhat Puja from 6 am to 8 am.

And, 35 minutes on Christmas & New Year’s Eve.

The Calcutta High Court has banned the sale, purchase & use of firecrackers during the Kali Puja, Diwali & other festivities this year to check the air pollution.

The court said that the “Firecracker” will cover all types of sparkles as well as similar materials, whether or not their bursting or burning involves any light or sound generation.

The order thus allowed only the use of “green” firecrackers for a limited period of time during Diwali & Kali Puja.
Puducherry

The Union Territory has allowed the sale of firecrackers at low prices ahead of Diwali Festival.

Papsco, a government agency has set up shops across the Union Territories to sell firecrackers at subsidized rates.

The agency is providing the firecrackers at 75% subsidy to the general public.
