3 Traditional Dishes of Kerala

1. Erissery (Lentil & Pumpkin Stew)

In Kerala, both locals and tourists enjoy Erissery. This filling curry is made with a nutritious combination of grains and pumpkin. It is one of the state's traditional 'kootan,' or main side dishes, and is the pride of every home. Eriserry is prepared with a flavorful blend of coconut, vegetables, and spices such as turmeric, cumin, and others. It goes well with steamed rice. This dish is also an essential component of Sadhya feasts prepared for festivals such as Onam.

2. Idiyappam & Curry

Idiyappam is one of Kerala's most popular dishes. Rice flour, salt, and water are used to make thin vermicelli. The strands are tucked together to give the Idiyappam texture. Traditionally, these are served with any curry. This dish's rich texture and simple flavour complement savoury curries like egg curry perfectly. In the state, these are also known as 'Noolappam.'

3. Parippu Curry (Curried Dal)

You're probably wondering what's so special about a curried dal. If you think of parippu curry as just any dal we make at home, you're mistaken. Parippu is rich in pure ghee flavours and contains a generous amount of chillies and spices.

It is typically served with other main courses and is an essential component of the Sadhya feast. When you visit Kerala, don't forget to try this curried dal.
