All government, municipal, and private offices, as well as schools in Delhi, will be closed from Friday, September 8 to Sunday, September 10 due to the G20 Summit, according to a statement by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Additionally, banks, financial institutions, and shops will also remain shut during these three days.
The Delhi Police Special Commissioner has advised the Chief Secretary of the city government to declare a government holiday from September 8 to September 10 due to the upcoming G20 Summit on September 9-10. The summit will take place at Delhi's advanced Bharat Mandapam convention centre in Pragati Maidan under India's presidency. This recommendation aims to prevent potential traffic congestion and logistical problems related to the arrival and departure of numerous delegates, including prominent leaders like US President Joe Biden, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and French President Emmanuel Macron.
The Delhi Police is taking possible measures to ensure seamless traffic during the G20 Summit by conducting mock drills on main roads connecting Pragati Maidan to hotels. These drills involve traffic police at intersections, diversion barricades, and arrangement assessments. The summit is vital, bringing together leaders, economists, and sector representatives to discuss global economics and cooperation. Effective coordination between law enforcement and local government is crucial for the event's success.
Regarding security preparations, the Delhi Police are providing their officers with training to manage chemical and biological weaponry, alongside improving their interpersonal abilities. A specific training initiative conducted by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has prepared a contingent of female commandos from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, dubbed "markswomen." Furthermore, the Delhi Police have procured specialized arms, munitions, bulletproof vests, and X-ray devices.
