GADVASU hosts International Workshop on 'One Health'

A week long ‘International workshop on One Health’ was inaugurated at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana on November 13, 2017. Dr. Rabinder Singh Aulakh, Director, School of Public Health & Zoonoses and Dr. Ramneek, Director, School of Animal Biotechnology, Organizing Secretaries of the event informed that the workshop is being organized to discuss and promote the concept of “One Health “ which takes into account the combined health of humans, animals and environment. Dr J P S Gill, Director of Research & Coordinator of this workshop, welcomed the Chief Guest, resource persons from Universities of Calgary & Saskatchewan, Canada informed that this event will focus on the issues of sustainable economic development and important zoonotic pathogens. More than 100 international and national participants are taking part in this mega event.

Dr. A.S. Nanda, Vice- Chancellor, GADVASU, inaugurated the event and expressed his views that the use of ‘One Health’ concept has ushered new hopes for solving complex issues involving human, animal and environmental health in India. He informed that in absence of an integrated approach between public and veterinary health agencies is major hurdle to solve the emerging problems affecting human, animal and environmental health. He emphasized that a collaborate approach is must to tackle the research problems for the benefit of farmers and society. He added that in the modern era, zoonotic infections and epidemics could only be averted through combined efforts of medical and veterinary scientists.

On this occasion, Dr. Baljit Singh Gill, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Calgary, Canada gave insight view on the efforts being made at the international level to promote the idea of “One Health” across the globe. Dr. Vikram Mishra, Professor, Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, Canada, and Chairman of the programme discussed the ongoing collaboration between University of Saskatchewan and GADVASU, Ludhiana. The function was attended by Dr Simrat Sagar Singh, Dean Post Graduate Studies, Dr P.S.Brar, Dean, College of Veterinary Science, Dr A.K. Puniya, Dean, College of Dairy Science & Technology, Dr Asha Dhawan, Dean College of Fisheries, Dr N S Sharma, Controller of Examination and all Heads of various departments.
