Mike Nash, Senior Editor of Fertilizers Argus Media Limited spoke about the affordability and availability of Fertilizers and Fertilizer Raw Materials in the international market. His emphasis was on how certain geopolitical issues have led to the spike in prices of fertilizers and about the current market trends of fertilizers and fertilizer raw materials in the international market.
He explained how pandemic has actually played a key role in Geopolitical issues, which has actually led to the largest exporter of fertilizers to China, but the restrictions on exports of Fertilizers such as Urea, potash, phosphates, phosphoric acids & sulfur have resulted in a spike in the prices of fertilizers in different countries. Mike Nash was also of the opinion that although the conditions to the spike in prices of food products in 2021, are not at all similar to the conditions which were essential in catalyzing the spike in 2007-2008, the events that took place after the spike, was the tremendous drop in prices that will surely happen.
He also went on to talk about the Us sanctions on Belarus and the restrictions on the exports imposed by Russia & Egypt on their fertilizers and was of the opinion that although the prices might not drop in the coming first 3 quarters of the financial year. The prices will surely drop by the fourth quarter of the financial year.
