ICAR-IIHR, based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, is set to host the grand ‘National Horticulture Fair – 2024’ from March 5 to 7, 2024. The event is organized in collaboration with the Society for Promotion of Horticulture (SPH), BESST-HORT (a Technology Business Incubator of ICAR-IIHR), ICAR-ATARI Bengaluru, and various prominent development departments dedicated to advancing horticulture and allied sectors.

Under the theme ‘NextGen Technology Led Horticulture for Sustainable Development,’ the National Horticulture Fair 2024 aims to spotlight and advocate the incorporation of cutting-edge technologies into horticultural practices. These innovations encompass smart irrigation, controlled environment farming, and vertical farming, among others, aiming to optimize resource utilization and bolster crop yields while minimizing environmental impact. This comprehensive approach underscores the importance of adopting efficient and eco-friendly horticultural techniques for sustainable development.

New Technologies at NHF - 2024

1. Arka Nihira

  • New Chilli variety yielding 30 tonnes/ha fresh weight and 7.5 tonnes/ha dry weight.

  • Resistant to Phytophthera root rot &

  • Chilli leaf curl virus

2. Arka Bhringraj

  • Highly vigorous

  • Seeds & cuttings available

  • High Wedelolactone content

  • Yields 100 to 125 kg/ha

3. Arka Vertical Farming Module

  • 5 tiered

  • 6'x 1'x 1'

  • Each structure can bear 2 tonne load

  • 80% water saving using traditional irrigation

  • Benefit cost ratio of 2:18

4. Arka Onion Bulblet Planter

  • Covers 0.12 ha/hr

  • 35% labour is saved by bed forming & planting simultaneously

  • Reduced drudgery

5. Vitamin Enrichment in Mushroom

  • Oyster mushroom – Hypsizygus ulmarius

  • Fresh mushrooms exposed to 100

  • W UV Bulb for 10 minutes.

  • Provides 57.61 micrograms.

  • Having 2.12 g of fresh mushroom suffices the RDA.

6. Arka Fresh Cut Fruit Technology

  • Ready to eat

  • Free from additives

  • Shelf life of 7 to 10 days can be achieved if stored at 8 C
