Odisha to Distribute Rice for Another 6 Months Under the Food Security Scheme

For the next six months, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has decided that an additional five kg of rice be distributed free of charge to State Food Security Scheme recipients.

From the allocation month of April 2022 to September 2022, each State Food Security Scheme beneficiary will receive an additional 5 kg of rice, according to the directive.

According to an official statement from the Chief Minister, the State Food Security Scheme will continue to cover 8.09 lakh people.

A total of 24,270 tonnes of rice will be provided from the State pool for this purpose, for Rs 91.70 crore from the State's funds.

This will allow beneficiaries enrolled in the scheme to stay on par with those covered by the National Food Security Act.

It's worth noting that the benefit of 5 kg of free rice for participants under this scheme was previously extended from December 2021 to March 2022.

From March 2022, the Union government has extended the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) free food grain distribution scheme for six more months.

The central government pays beneficiaries of the (NFSA) an extra 5 kg rice or wheat per month over and above their customary monthly quota for free under this scheme.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, and other dignitaries congratulated Odisha residents on Utkal Dibasa on Friday.

President Ram Nath Kovind took to Twitter to say: "My greetings to the people of Odisha on Odisha Day. Odisha, home to the temples of Jagannath, Lingaraj, Konark, and other rich heritages, sent a message of peace and love to the globe, avoiding bloodshed. My sincerest wishes for the progress of the state."

The Prime Minister wished the people of the state on the special occasion via his Twitter account.

Modi prayed for Odisha's development in the future, saying that Odia people are making significant contributions to India's progress and that Odia culture is widely respected.
