Parshottam Rupala, the Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying for the Government of India, unveiled a new Android-based mobile app called "Report Fish Disease" today at Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi.
The launch event took place in the presence of Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, as well as other dignitaries including J.N. Swain, Secretary of the Department of Fisheries, MoFAH&D, Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, Officer on Special Duty at MoFAH&D, and Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary of DARE & DG, ICAR, New Delhi. The app has been developed by the ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR) in Lucknow and is being introduced as part of the National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases.
Aligned with the vision of "Digital India," the "Report Fish Disease" app aims to enhance transparency in reporting and contribute to the national and international obligations of the fisheries sector. The Department of Fisheries has allocated Rs 33.78 crore over three years for the implementation of the second phase of the National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases under the PMMSY scheme. The app serves as a central platform, seamlessly connecting fish farmers, field-level officers, and fish health experts.
In the past, disease problems faced by farmers often went unnoticed or were not promptly reported. However, with the introduction of this app, the experts will be able to address these issues efficiently within a short period of time. Fish farmers utilizing the app will have direct access to district fisheries officers and scientists. They can self-report diseases affecting their finfish, shrimps, and molluscs farms through the app.
Furthermore, the app will provide scientific and technical assistance to farmers through its interface, enabling experts to offer guidance and support. This early warning system and scientific advice will help farmers reduce losses caused by diseases, thereby strengthening disease reporting among fish farmers nationwide.
With the successful launch of this app, the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying is taking a proactive approach towards embracing digital solutions for the benefit of the agricultural community and the overall growth of the fisheries industry.
