Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Mormu have received fresh seasonal mangoes sent by Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who has displayed her generosity by a gift like this. This is not the first time, as Sheikh Hasina has previously gifted mangoes to Indian dignitaries.
According to news report from Bangladeshi Daily, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka has mentioned that Sheikh Hasina extended this gesture to Sonia Gandhi, the former leader of the Indian National Congress, and other esteemed dignitaries. The gift baskets this year showcased renowned mango varieties, including Himsagar and Langra, which are primarily sourced from the Rajshahi region of Bangladesh. This region is widely acclaimed for cultivating exceptionally delicious and high-quality mangoes.
As reported by them, during the delightful summer season when mangoes, a fruit rich in nutrients, begin to ripen, the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi took the initiative to deliver these special gifts to the offices of the respective dignitaries.
In 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the chief ministers of West Bengal, Tripura, and Assam were bestowed with the gift of mangoes. Prime Minister Hasina also extended her generosity to all the chief ministers of the Northeast region.
Throughout history, mangoes have symbolically aided in efforts to ease political tensions between nations. Leaders have frequently used the act of gifting mangoes to foster goodwill and bridge gaps in diplomatic relations. Notable instances include Jawaharlal Nehru presenting mangoes to Mao Zedong, and more recently, Sheikh Hasina graciously sending mangoes as a gift to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
