At the end of the year, many brands including Swiggy, and Zomato released their yearly reports that gave insight into the habits of people and revealed the most ordered food item of 2022.
No prizes for guessing, as it's your beloved biryani.
Zomato reported that in 2022, consumers ordered 186 biryani per minute, making it the most popular meal of the year once again. While Swiggy also revealed that Biryani continues to dominate Indian palates as it breaks new records.
Other than biryani, people also experimented with other flavors, with ravioli (from Italy) and bibimbap (from Korea) emerging as popular options.
Food apps claim that samosas were the most frequently consumed snack in the previous year. Swiggy stated that "nearly 40 lakhs crispy tikona yumminess were ordered and consumed," adding that "Nashta+Tiffin+Chai Time was made special with Samosa capturing the top position."
The other options in the top ten most popular snacks included pav bhaji, French fries, garlic bread sticks, hot wings, tacos, traditional filled garlic bread, and a mingles bucket.
Popcorns came to the rescue of late-night cravings with over 22 lakh orders placed on the food delivery service. As per reports, most of these orders were placed after 10 o'clock at night.
The dessert comes next, with people sticking to Gulab Jamun, the traditional taste of India. According to Swiggy, 27 lakh orders were made through it in 2022. With 16 lakh orders, ras malai was the second most popular dessert, while 10 lakh purchases of chocolate lava cake made it the third most popular option.
The most popular "Videshi" dishes, according to reports, included Italian pasta, pizza, Mexican bowls, spicy ramen, and sushi, while the most popular "desi" dishes consumed in 2022 included tandoori chicken, chicken biryani, masala dosa, chicken fried rice, paneer butter masala, butter naan, and paneer butter masala.

According to the company's annual trends report, "How India Swiggy'd 2022," a customer from Bengaluru purchased food and groceries worth Rs 16.6 lakh through Siwggy Instamart this year.

Zomato revealed, on all 2022 orders, a person from Mumbai saved the most money, reaching Rs 2,43,490.

Swiggy stated, over 8,300 orders were completed by Manoj Vk from Thiruvananthapuram, Dinesh Kumar from Trichy, and Sachin Saini from Panipat. Thresia and Viji, both from Thiruvananthapuram, are two of our female delivery executives who have completed close to 6,000 deliveries.

“Do you know who placed the most orders in 2022? Ankur from Delhi is the customer who placed 3,330 orders this year. That's precisely 9.1232876712 times every day," Zomato reported.

“During Diwali, a purchase of Rs 75,378 came from Bangalore from one of our most hungry clients. A client in Pune followed him and placed an order for his whole crew of hamburgers and fries, totaling Rs 71,229 in the bill,” according to Swiggy.

Zomato also reported that this year, Rahul is credited with placing the most cake orders. Additionally, Kharagpur resident Tina placed an incredible single-serve order worth Rs 25,455 of pizza.
