The Uttar Pradesh government has announced plans to establish 'RRR' centers in 11 municipal corporations as part of the 'Meri Life, Mera Swachh Shehar' campaign. These centers, which stand for 'Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle,' aim to collect various waste materials from households and distribute them to those in need. Dubbed as 'Na Throw-Na Throw' centers, they will accept items such as clothes, books, toys, electrical and electronic equipment, and machinery.
Neha Sharma, the state mission director of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), stated that these centers will also function as banks for clothes, books, utensils, and toys. They will be operated by municipal corporations in collaboration with voluntary organizations, self-help groups, and other entities.
The campaign will take place from May 20 to June 5 and offers citizens, institutions, and commercial enterprises a convenient solution to deposit items that are no longer usable or appropriate. Once collected, these items will be handed over to various stakeholders who will refurbish them for reuse or convert them into new products.
Sharma emphasized that the collection and distribution of items will be organized by volunteers at the centers. Additionally, the authorities will recycle the waste generated from the preparation of ODOP (One District, One Product) products.
In a separate initiative, a cow dung bank will be established in Kanha Upvan, Lucknow, where cow dung will be collected from the surrounding areas and transformed into eco-friendly products.
Similarly, a Kernel bank will be set up in Lucknow Municipal Corporation to collect fruit kernels. These banks will be installed in previously cleaned legacy waste sites within the urban areas of the state.
