  • Govt Plans to Purchase 3 Lakh Tonnes of Onions During Rabi Season, says Piyush Goyal

    Union Minister Piyush Goyal declared on Thursday that the government agencies will purchase 3 lakh tonnes of onion once the winter harvest begins. Goyal, who oversees Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, stated that the rabi produce was purchased for a total of 2.5 lakh tonnes last year. "I have already boosted my onion purchase from the Rabi harvest from 2.5 lakh tonnes last year to 3 lakh tonnes this year to guarantee farmers get a fair price," as per Piyush Goyal.

     

  • ICAR Reports 20% Mango Crop Damage Due to Untimely Rains & Hailstorm

    Unseasonal rains, hailstorms, and strong winds have caused up to 20% damage to India's mango crop, with losses more frequent in North India. The damage has led to a reduction in the availability of good mangoes for export, and farmers have reported infestations due to excessive moisture levels. According to senior ICAR officials, late rains, hailstorms, and strong winds have caused up to 20% damage to the nation's mango crop.

     

  • J&K Govt Allocates Rs 3156 Crores to Agriculture and Allied Sectors in Budget 2023-34

    In the budget for 2023-24, Rs 3156 crore has been allocated for these vital sectors for the creation of an authorized environment to transform J&K agriculture and allied sectors to expand farmers’ income, assure food security and boost UT's economic growth. Over the next 5 years, a Comprehensive Agriculture Development Plan has been rolled out with 29 proposed projects worth an outlay of Rs 5012 crore to be executed.

     

  • Hooda Urges Govt to Provide Bonus to Wheat Farmers in Wake of Crop Damage

    Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the leader of the opposition in India, has demanded a bonus of Rs. 500 per quintal for wheat farmers due to unseasonal rains damaging crops. He also criticized the government's handling of the situation, claiming that farmers were not receiving adequate compensation for crop losses and that the administration was underreporting damage. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the current leader of the opposition and a former chief minister, today asked for a bonus of Rs. 500 per quintal forwheat farmer. He claimed that the ongoing, unseasonal rain was damaging the standing wheat crop in the fields.

     

  • Punjab Cabinet Approves Increased Compensation for Crop Loss Ahead of Baisakhi

    Yesterday, the Punjab Cabinet put its stamp on a 25 per cent rise in the compensation for crop damage due to untimely rainfall with the government saying that the money will reach before Baisakhi to the saddened farmers in mid-April. The council of ministers, in a meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, approved the government decision to boost the relief amount from Rs 12,000 per acre to Rs 15,000 per acre for 75 to 100 per cent crop damage.
