  • Haryana to Get its First Water Atlas Soon, Will Aid Farmers to Know Water-level in Their Region

    The Haryana Water Authority (HWRA), in collaboration with Haryana Space Applications Centre (HARSAC), is set to launch the state's very first groundwater atlas by the end of this month. The project will help the authorities to understand why the water levels in the state have been falling each year and assist farmers in knowing the water level in their region Both the agencies are using decadal data on inclusive groundwater levels, village water tables, recycled water use, and crop diversity to produce the atlas, along with the decadal changes and satellite maps of water sources.

    With rising commodity costs, the world is experiencing a food, fuel, and energy crisis that is unprecedented. Global fertilizer, agricultural, and industrial policies have been impacted by growing concerns about climate change and the emphasis on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. At the Conference of Parties (COP) 26 in Glasgow, India also made time-bound pledges to attain specific targets by 2030 and make progress toward achieving net zero emissions by 2070. The goals for 2030 include building 500GW of non-fossil energy capacity, obtaining 50% of one's energy needs from renewable sources, cutting carbon emissions by 1 billion tonnes, and lowering the carbon intensity of the Indian economy by 45% from 2005 levels. The fertilizer industry will also need to give its fair share to this endeavor.

    The Kisan Credit Card scheme intends to offer farmers flexible and efficient financial support from the banking system through a single window for their farming demands and other needs as listed below: To meet the short-term credit needs for agricultural production, post-harvest costs, a loan for product marketing, and household consumption needs for farmers; working capital for farm asset maintenance and allied agricultural activities; Requirement for investment loans in agriculture and related sectors. Farmers- Joint/ Individual borrowers who are owner cultivators, tenant farmers, oral lessees, and sharecroppers are all eligible for the Kisan Credit Card scheme. Self- help Groups (SHGs) or Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) of farmers including tenant farmers, sharecroppers, etc.

  • K Annamalai Threatens To Go on Fast-Unto-Death if TN Govt Acquires Agricultural Land in Annur

    While leading a protest in Annur, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai declared that he would not allow the state government to acquire "even a handful of soil" from the farmers in response to the proposal to purchase enormous expanses of property, including agricultural areas in the region. Further, he threatened to go on a fast-until-death if the government bought agricultural land to build an industrial zone in Annur. Various farmers and farmer groups from several villages of Annur and Mettupalayam taluks have been protesting for past some days against the state government, claiming that the acquisition will include taking over of acres of fertile land.
