  • Wheat Procurement in Punjab Set to be Higher at 120 Lakh MT Despite Unfavourable Weather

    Wheat procurement for the current winter crops marketing season is expected to be higher as compared to the last year’s procurement. It is expected that the wheat purchase will reach 120 Lakh MT this rabi marketing season even after unseasonal rain and inclement weather. This year's procurement is nearly 24 Lakh MT than the previous year. An official from the Punjab Food and Civil Supplies Department said that Punjab may purchase nearly 120 Lakh Metric tonnes of wheat this procurement year. He said that the crop was affected the previous season because of the rise in Mercury in the month of March.

     

  • NRRI Seeks Approval For 10 New Rice Verities to Enhance Crop Resilience & Yield

    The National Rice Research Institute was set up in Cuttack, Odisha on 23rd April 1946. The NRRI has submitted a proposal for the identification of 10 new varieties of rice to the Central Varietal Release Committee. A.K. Nayak, Director, NRRI said that the seven rice varieties sent by the NRRI have been recognized by CVRC in the past year. The NRRI scientists have credits in various rice research disciplines, such as Entomology, Physiology, Food Technology, Biochemistry, Nematology, Plant Pathology & Mycology, and more. The institute is categorized into different departments and each department is headed by a Department Head. After the Gajendragadkar Commission Report, the working conditions have massively improved in terms of the pay for research scientists.

According to a report by PTI, the official claimed that the proposed regulation will aid in giving dealers better infrastructure and greater financing. The proposed national retail trade policy in India may include initiatives like guaranteeing easy and quick access to affordable credit, encouraging the modernization and digitization of retail trade, supporting distribution chains with modern infrastructure, promoting skill development, and raising labour productivity. The policy might also create a strong system for consultation and grievance redressal.
