    As World Coffee Day approaches, Indian coffee farmers celebrate improved yield and rise in revenue by embracing state-of-the-art farming methodologies and technologies. Key collaborators Precision Development (PxD) and TechnoServe, with the support of Walmart Foundation, have empowered smallholder farmers and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) by harnessing the power of technology, data, adoption of substantial framing practices, and increased market access. While Precision Dev reaches out to 70,000 coffee farmers In Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, TechnoServe has been engaged with over 10,000 farmers across 8 FPOs.

  • ICAR-CIFRI Organizes Workshop on Fish Conservation, Ranching in River Ganga Under National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) Project

    The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI) in Barrackpore recently hosted a one-day concluding workshop on September 27, 2023. The workshop focused on the "Stakeholders, Consultation cum Consultative Workshop on Fish Conservation and Ranching in River Ganga" and was aimed at evaluating the achievements of a three-year project funded by NMCG under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India. Dr. Basanta Kumar Das, Director of ICAR-CIFRI and Principal Investigator for NMCG, highlighted the mission to replenish fish populations through ICAR-CIFRI's efforts. They released over 65 lakh fish fingerlings in five states from 2020 to 2023, resulting in increased fish catches in the Ganga River. The project also conducted 140 awareness programs involving 10,000 fishermen to promote aquatic biodiversity conservation and fish habitat restoration. Additionally, it successfully produced 227 lakh Indian Major Carp seeds, inspiring the government to launch similar river ranching programs nationwide.

  • Global Turmeric Conference Unites Stakeholders for Development of Turmeric Ecosystem

    The Global Turmeric Conference brought together key players in the turmeric industry, such as policymakers, FPOs, traders, corporations, processors, and exporters. A significant outcome of the conference was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NCDEX and Haridra, a turmeric research centre. The MoU's objective is to boost awareness about various aspects of turmeric, including quality, grades, cultivation methods, price risk management, finance, and more. The inaugural turmeric ecosystem conference, organized by NICR and Tefla, brought together industry stakeholders to discuss challenges and opportunities in the turmeric market. A notable development was the MoU between NCDEX and Haridra to boost the turmeric value chain. Mr Hemant Patil, a Member of Parliament, highlighted Maharashtra's substantial turmeric production, making up 50% of the country's consumption.
