Give Your Plants a Deep Water

A deep watering session will differ slightly from a regular watering session. Deep watering may be accomplished by soaking the soil from the bottom up and letting the plant's soil draw the water up and thoroughly saturate it. You might also simply water them for a little bit longer than usual so that some water remains in the saucers under the pots. Although it is typically not advised, having this water reserve might be quite important while you are away.

Leave Houseplants in Water Reservoirs

Use caution while attempting this procedure because it will only work to keep your plants alive under the proper circumstances. If you are confident that the room will be continuously warm and well-lit, it's safe to leave the plant with a well-developed root system in a container filled with water this can be a bucket, a laundry tub, or an old cooking pot.

You should use a different watering technique if there is a risk of temperature fluctuations or if the soil is excessively deep, dusty, or prone to being quickly saturated. You should only swing on the side of caution if choosing between a plant that has dried up and one that dies from root rot.

Get a Plant Watering Globe or Spike

You may now get plant-watering gadgets that will assist in watering your plants while you are gone and won't just drown their roots. Both inside and outdoors, a plant watering globe or plant watering spike which is both available from Amazon, will gently discharge water from its reservoir into the soil. You just put it in your pot after filling it with water. Due to their glass construction, watering globes are typically more attractive.

Ask Someone to Water Your Plants for You

In the end, if you're going to be gone for a time, a friend or family member may have to pop over and provide help. Perhaps the difference between a plant being alive or dead when you return from your much-needed vacation is having someone come by and water the plants for you. It's essential to leave a note for your friends or family if you have many plants and they each have varied care demands because they likely won’t remember which plant needs what.

Move Houseplants Away from Sunny Windows

Moving plants out of direct sunlight can allow the plants to go longer without needing to be watered. Moving plants that require a lot of light to a shaded area is unwise since you could return to find that they have perished from a lack of light while you were away. However, only putting them a few inches deeper into the space can enable them to retain the water in the soil for a little while longer.
