About MPEDA:

An act of Parliament established the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) in 1972. On August 24, 1972, the former Marine Products Export Promotion Council, established by the Government of India in September 1961, was merged into MPEDA. MPEDA has been tasked with promoting the marine products industry, with a focus on exports from the country.

MPEDA is responsible, as a nodal agency, for the holistic development of India's seafood industry in order for it to realize its full export potential. Based on MPEDA recommendations, the Government of India notified new standards for fishing vessels, storage facilities, processing plants, and conveyances. Market promotion, capture and culture fishing, processing infrastructure and value addition, quality control, and research and development are the primary focuses of the MPEDA.
