The Tripura government has launched a major fish farming project at Dumboor Lake, which is located in the Dhalai district, around 120 kilometers from Agartala, the capital.

According to Fishery Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia, the Dumboor lake is the largest water body in the state, and steps are being taken to encourage innovative fish farming for the economic uplift of those living near the lake.

"Most of the people who live in the surrounding district of the lake are from low-income families," he explained, "therefore this project is quite ambitious in nature." We are providing the equipment required for fish cage culture, a novel technology in the state. We have received Rs 25 crore from Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada scheme to complete the project here."

On Tuesday, Jamatia paid a visit to Dmboor Lake with top officials from his department to assess the preparedness of the project.

"The people in the region know nothing about cage culture, but it has the potential to earn a huge amount of money for them." We are now giving equipment to 260 families in the region, with a goal of 1,000.

"Fish culture is an alternative revenue possibility for the inhabitants of the area, and I believe that if they become acquainted with this way of fish culture, the region's rural economy would benefit greatly." "I spoke with the recipients and ordered the relevant personnel to advise them with the most up-to-date technical information and supervision," Jamatia told reporters.

Dumboor Lake, which covers 41 square kilometers, is also a popular tourist destination in the state.
