Mandi Updates: On-Month Wholesale Prices of Groundnut Fall across Key Mandis

In Karnataka, the prices fell by 2.8% to Rs 6,165 and in Uttar Pradesh by around 2.2% to Rs 5,331.

The wholesale prices of groundnut fell across the benchmark markets of India, according to the data from the Agmarknet portal run by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. As of April 10, 2024, the monthly average wholesale prices of groundnut fell by Rs 74.5 to Rs  6,561.6 per quintal. Amongst all the regions, Tamil Nadu saw the largest fall of 8.7% to Rs 8,204 per quintal, followed by Telangana with a fall of 4.7% to Rs 6,084 per quintal. 

Groundnut Prices Slump Across Various States

Other states and union territories where the wholesale prices of groundnut slumped are Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. In Karnataka, the prices fell by 2.8% to Rs 6,165 and in Uttar Pradesh by around 2.2% to Rs 5,331. In Maharashtra and Gujarat, the prices fell by almost 2.9% to Rs 5,551 and by around 1.2% to Rs 6,142, respectively.

Prices Surge in Few States

However, the wholesale prices of groundnut rose in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and West Bengal. In Chhattisgarh, the prices increased by 12.9% to Rs 6,000 per quintal, and in West Bengal by around 6.6% to Rs 11,400. In Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan the prices rose by 3.3%, and 3.1%, to Rs 5,401, and Rs 5,443.

Groundnut is a kharif crop that is majorly grown in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. Apart from India, it is grown in China, Nigeria, the US, Brazil, and Argentina.
