Mandi Updates: On-Month Average Wholesale Price of Sugar Fall By Rs 47

Among all the regions, Delhi saw the largest fall of 7% to Rs 3,800 per quintal, followed by West Bengal with a fall of around 1.4% to Rs 3,791 per quintal.

The month-on-month wholesale prices of sugar fell across the benchmark markets of India, according to the data from the Agmarknet portal run by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. As of April 13, 2024, the monthly average wholesale prices of sugar fell by Rs 47 to Rs 3,975 per quintal. However, on-year average wholesale prices increased by Rs 20.

Among all the regions, Delhi saw the largest fall of 7% to Rs 3,800  per quintal, followed by West Bengal with a fall of around 1.4% to Rs 3,791 per quintal. However, the wholesale prices of sugar rose in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. In Maharashtra, the prices increased by 1.3% to Rs 4,100 per quintal, in Rajasthan by around 0.7% to Rs 4,170, and in Uttar Pradesh marginally by 0.4% to Rs 4,012. 

Sugar prices largely depend on sugarcane production, which is a kharif crop. Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra are among the largest sugarcane-producing states in India. Apart from India, the sweet crop is widely grown in Brazil.
