National Conference on Millets: The Future Super Food for India

Nutrition and Food Security is a global challenge with huge social and economic costs; nearly every country faces a public health challenge. Millets are the crops that can add value to both aspects of this urgency, thereby can address both nutritional insecurity and food security. The process still needs development of a value chain for better production, processing, and value addition.

India has one of the world’s highest demographics of the population suffering from malnutrition. In India, over decades, though there has been a reduction in severe acute food insecurity, the under-nutrition and micronutrient deficiencies are widespread.

The government has taken the initiative of large food security and anti-poverty programs, still poor quality of food lacking essential micronutrients and unhygienic conditions of storage is a big problem in our country. Our dominant food habit entails the regime relying upon one type of food grain known as staple food crops. Millets on the other hand are the staple food of many communities and regions of India. Producing millets can also be very lucrative and there is a strong potential to acquire millet-based products falling under the category of RTE/RTS.

To address the subject matter, ASSOCHAM with the support of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, GoI is organizing its National Conference on Millets: The Future Super Food for India on June 23, 2022 at Hotel Le Meridien, New Delhi. The conference will provide a platform for leaders in the Food processing sector, practitioners, scientists, farmers, industries, organized agriculture sector, civil society, and NGOs to discuss and share experiences on successes, and to deliberate the opportunities and challenges faced in ensuring food and nutritional security.
