The state minister of cultural affairs in Maharashtra, Sudhir Mungantiwar announced on Thursday that the renowned playback singer Asha Bhosle will receive the Maharashtra Bhushan award in Nagpur at the Yashwant Stadium in Dhantoli. As per the available information, the event will take place in the city on December 21.
Bhosle was reportedly chosen by the Maharashtra Bhushan Selection Committee, which was presided over by the former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, in a unanimous vote.
The committee members have requested all the ministers, MLAs, and MLCs in the state to attend the event. They insisted that the ceremony take place in Nagpur during the winter session, where all of the elected officials would be present.
While Bhosle's consent was a major concern initially, the event was approved by the committee after she agreed to visit Nagpur to receive the award.
The Guinness Book of World Records named Bhosle as the artist with the most recordings in history. Bhosle, who is the younger sister of the late singer Lata Mangeshkar, has previously earned the prestigious Padma Vibhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
Mangeshkar, a legendary vocalist and popular background singer, passed away on February 6, 2022, at the age of 92 in Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital after being hospitalized with COVID-19 symptoms.
