C Harinarayanan, District Collector of Andhra Pradesh has instructed the concerned officials to motivate farmers on adopting farm mechanization to overcome the burden of labour.
On Tuesday, a review meeting was also held by him with the agriculture department officials over the PM Kisan Yojana, cropping system, seasonal conditions, YSR Rythu Bharosa, implementation of zero per cent rate of interest, farm mechanization, adoption of drone technology, etc.
The Collector claimed that to save farmers money on labour costs, the government is promoting farm mechanisation by granting subsidies on the purchase of agricultural machinery.
Farm mechanization is more feasible and time-saving than manual labour, but most farmers do not choose such techniques owing to the lack of understanding combined with financial and other considerations, he noted.
Also, the Collector questioned the overabundance of several cultivable crops for the upcoming Kharif season and emphasised the need for officials to educate farmers about growing millets and other commercial crops to secure high profits with minimal investment and water management procedures.
Declaring that there is no water scarcity in the present Kharif season, Collector C Harinarayanan directed the officials to keep the seeds, pesticides, and fertilizers ready at Rythu Bharosa Kendrams. The meeting was attended by District Agriculture Officer Sudhakar Raju, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors and others.
