Latest Weather Report: The northwest of India, including Delhi, is expected to have light to moderate rain and hailstorms with winds gusting to 50 kph next week, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). According to the IMD, Northwest India is predicted to see an active Western Disturbance from January 21 to January 25.
According to a statement from the agency, "Under its influence, rainfall/snowfall is predicted to begin across the western Himalayan region in the early hours of January 21 and continue through January 25 with peak activity on January 23–24."
A light to moderate hailstorm is predicted to occur on January 23 and 24 in isolated locations over Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, and north Rajasthan. IMD warned that on January 23 and 24, winds occasionally reaching 50 kph are very likely to prevail throughout Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and west Uttar Pradesh.
8 Cold Wave Days in Delhi in January:
The northwesterly winds and fog, which rose to the upper level during the day and blocked sunshine, according to an IMD official, made the first cold wave episode feel colder than it actually was. This also indicated low daytime temperatures.
We have experienced clear sky during this second spell, which has mostly been caused by strong, cold northwesterly winds that have been stronger and moving more quickly than they were during the last spell from January 5 to 9.
Why Does it Rain in Delhi During Winters?
Delhi has not yet experienced any rain this winter. The lack of significant western disturbances in November and December is the reason behind it as said by the Met department.
Rainfall in the city was predicted to be caused by two western disturbances. "Delhi will be affected by the first western disturbance on January 19 [Thursday] and 20 [Friday], with the possibility of precipitation on Thursday night. The second one will be stronger and affect the western Himalayan region from January 20th to January 26th. According to the official, the plains in the northwest will be affected from January 23 to 25, and light rain and gusty winds are predicted for both days on January 24.
Though the minimum temperatures have been low, there have been bright days. On Wednesday, a maximum temperature of 19.6°C was noted. On Thursday and Friday, a high of 21°C was predicted.
