Earthquake of 5.4 Magnitude Strikes Nepal, Tremors Felt in Delhi-NCR & Lucknow

Strong tremors were felt earlier in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and across north India late Tuesday night after a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck the Himalayan region near Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, near the Nepal border, killing at least six people.

Earthquake in Delhi

Tremors were felt in Delhi and neighboring states around 8 pm today (12 Nov), prompting people to rush out of their houses. The epicenter of earthquake was again in Nepal.

"An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 struck Nepal today around 7:57 p.m. The earthquake was 10 kilometres below ground "According to the National Center for Seismology. According to an IMD official, the quake originated in Nepal at a depth of 10 kilometres at Latitude 29.28 N and Longitude 81.20 E.

The earthquake struck at 1.57 a.m. Wednesday in Nepal, about 90 kilometres east-southeast of Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby cities such as Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram, as well as Lucknow. For the past few days, the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand and neighbouring Nepal has been experiencing earthquakes of lesser magnitude. According to the USGS, the epicenter of the earthquake was 21 kilometres from Dipayal in Nepal.

On October 19, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck near Kathmandu. According to NCS, the earthquake struck 53 kilometres east of Kathmandu at around 2:52 p.m. The earthquake was 10 kilometres below ground.

According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, an earthquake of magnitude 6 struck 147 kilometres east of Kathmandu at 8.13 a.m. IST on July 31 near Martim Birta in the Khotang district.

A high-intensity earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale struck central Nepal between Kathmandu and Pokhara in 2015. It is estimated that 8,964 people were killed and nearly 22,000 were injured.
