Agriculture in India is the most population involving activity. And under the demographic change that India is bound to undergo, it is required that a decent number of youth shall be involved with this sector, but the depressing part is that youth has found this activity back breaking and laborious which makes it more un-attractive.

There used to be a time, when agriculturists in India were pictured as someone bathed in sweat, with his/her malnourished body ploughing the field being tortured by the sun and the dusty winds. But its not the very reality anymore. Mechanization and Science has influenced the sector and has made it as economical and attractive as it could be. 102 ICAR institutes and 64 state agricultural universities makes a large network of science centers in the entire economy which has tremendous potential to make a career in agriculture.

More has been said, lets look at the real picture of the agricultural education and scope thereafter.

Job prospects in Agriculture

The population of the world is increasing exponentially and by 2050, we shall produce double the amount of food that we produce today, to meet the necessities. All the countries in the world are working keeping the subject of agriculture at the forefront and hence a lot of job opportunities based on agriculture and farming system are being evolved. Scientifically and technically advanced, new varieties of food production technologies are contributing to expand food production in every region which has great potential. Many new areas for research have been developed to improve the genetics of crops, horticulture, livestock and natural resources and to improve the quantity of genes which focuses on effects of climate change, agriculture research, product development and technical transfer pricing and scaling and policy research programs, which increases grain production capacity. Areas such as research work requires trained agricultural graduates in huge numbers.

In addition, demand of research and development, agricultural extension and education program management is increasing. Career in Agricultural Research

People who work in this field, deals in agricultural food products. Involving the wisdom of  Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics to increase the agricultural production and improve the quality of food.

Besides improving the quality of food, food protection, packaging, storing and supplying must have a bachelor’s degree in the field, As an agriculture scientist, master’s degree or PhD to make a career, is vital for senior researchers. Career in the teaching profession, can be taken up by the people who get degree in post graduate diploma in agriculture and related subjects in the study for a degree in agriculture can become technologists, Agriculture Professional salary is decided depending upon the educational qualification and experience in the government sector. A fresh graduate can earn up to 20 to 30 thousand rupees. Multinational companies and N. G. O.  also render work with good pay.

Career in Agriculture Economics

Agriculture Master’s degree is required to become Agricultural Economist, the pay scale varies depending upon many things.The various government organisations provides salary ranging from  20,000- 30,000 as starting pay. Rs 55,000 to Rs 35,000 for research work can also be drawn.

Career in Agricultural Engineering

Easier and profitable Agricultural systems engineering and biological science are required for getting involved with agricultural engineering. Agricultural engineering Career opportunities are also available in the region for the work of the teaching will also be employed in rural areas. Agriculture Engineering N. G. O. In their rural development programs can work with, The Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are required to be well versed in the industry to pay scales are based upon experience and qualifications.
