IMD Predicts Rain and Hailstorms for the Next Seven Days

A reprieve from the heat is on the calendar for several Indian states, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light to moderate rainfall and hailstorms over the next few days.

Central and East Peninsular India may witness rainfall until May 15 and in South Peninsular India until May 16. It is also anticipated that hailstorms along with heavy winds over isolated pockets of east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh.

According to the latest predictions, states such as Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall due to a Western Disturbance evolving into a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan, along with other circulations over West Uttar Pradesh and south Rajasthan.

Today, areas including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand will witness widespread rainfall with thunderstorms and heavy winds. This will reduce, thereafter, by the May 14.

Regions such as Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, and Rajasthan are also expected to experience varying degrees of rainfall.

Coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and Karnataka will receive scattered to widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and winds.

In northeastern states, scattered rainfall will continue until May 15, followed by widespread rainfall from May 16 to 18. Maharashtra and Karnataka will experience a slight relief with temperatures expected to fall by 2-4°C over the next 3-4 days.

IMD suggests that due to thunderstorms in various regions across India, the heatwave has abated and is unlikely to develop over the next few days.
