International Scientists Visit GADVASU for Academic and Scientific Alliance

GADVASU and PSU also signed an MoU to upscale the existing academic linkage with intensive student/faculty exchange and collaborative research of mutual interest, benefiting fisheries and livestock sectors.

Professor Dr. Soottawat Benjakul, Director of the International Centre of Excellence in Seafood Science and Innovation (ICE-SSI), Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Thailand, and Dr. Kartik Baruah, Associate Professor, Research Group Leader, Aquaculture Nutraceuticals Research Group, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Sweden are on a one-week interactive visit to College of Fisheries (COF), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) as “International Visiting Professors” under ICAR’s IDP-NAHEP project.  

Dr. Meera D. Ansal, Dean COF informed that Dr. Soottawat is a highly decorated scientist of international repute; working on the extraction of valuable bioactive compounds and products from seafood waste, having about 900 research publications, over 36,000 citations, several national/international awards, and 13 patents to his credit.

GADVASU and PSU signed an MoU to upscale the existing academic linkage with intensive student/faculty exchange and collaborative research of mutual interest, benefiting fisheries and livestock sectors. Dr. Prabjeet Singh, scientist, CoF played an instrumental role in this international MoU.

Dr. Baruah with high-impact research publications and international recognition in the field of nutraceuticals for promoting aquatic animal health is having fruitful scientific deliberations with the COF faculty for prospective joint research in the field of nutraceuticals in special reference to fish and shellfish larval rearing.

This fruitful outcome reaped through previous linkages with Dr. Baruah, during Dr. Vaneet Inder Kaur’s, international training at Ghent University, Belgium, and her Ph.D. student research at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden. 

The MoU was signed by Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor in the presence of Dr. J.P.S Gill, Director of Research, Dr. H. S. Banga, Registrar, and other officers of the university. Expressing gratitude to Dr. Soottawat for accepting 20 fisheries students for 15-days of international training and offering an M.Sc – Ph.D. integrated program to GADVASU fisheries graduates at ICE-SSI.

Dr. Singh was impressed that the said opportunity of working in a center of international repute will certainly help the students to excel professionally and serve the sector as capable professional asset.
