The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) announced the launch of a new range of traditional clothing, 'Sanatan Khadi Vastra,' with an enticing 20% discount. The unveiling took place on Wednesday, with KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar inaugurating the 'Sanatan Vastra' at the flagship Khadi Bhawan in Connaught Place, Delhi. The 'Sanatan Vastra' is crafted from Khadi fabric, with its design meticulously curated at the Khadi Center of Excellence (COEK) located at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).
Speaking at the inauguration event, Chairman Manoj Kumar highlighted that the manufacturing process of Khadi involves no mechanical or chemical interventions, making 'Sanatan Vastra' a unique representation of Indian tradition.
Special Discounts to Celebrate Tradition
To mark the launch, Khadi Bhawan, New Delhi, is offering a special discount of up to 20 percent on 'Sanatan Vastra' and 10% to 60% on various Khadi and village industry products. This promotion is available from January 17 to January 25, 2024.
Khadi for Nation, Fashion, and Transformation
Addressing the gathering, Chairman Manoj Kumar emphasized the transformation of Khadi under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He quoted the PM who defined Khadi as 'Khadi for Nation, Khadi for Fashion, and Khadi for Transformation.' The 'Sanatan Vastra' is a testament to this philosophy, blending the needs of modern times with the timeless essence of Khadi.
Reviving the Glory of Khadi
Chairman Kumar expressed the government's commitment to reviving the historical significance of Khadi, once a pivotal weapon in India's struggle for independence. He credited Prime Minister Modi for leading the efforts to restore Khadi to its former glory, citing impressive statistics over the last nine years. Khadi and village industry products have witnessed a significant surge, surpassing Rs 1.34 lakh crore in business. Khadi textile production has surged from Rs 880 crore to Rs 3,000 crore, and product sales have risen from Rs 1,170 crore to Rs 6,000 crore.
Empowering Rural Artisans
Highlighting the socio-economic impact, Chairman Kumar stressed that the expansion of Khadi is integral to improving the lives of millions of artisans in rural India. He reiterated the vision of connecting the youth with Swadeshi through initiatives like 'Sanatan Vastra,' aligning with the Prime Minister's commitment to transform Khadi into a global symbol of heritage and fashion.
Record Sales Reflecting Khadi's Resurgence
Chairman Kumar concluded by sharing impressive sales figures, demonstrating Khadi's resurgence in popularity. During the Khadi Mahotsav, the Connaught Place showroom in Delhi achieved sales of Rs 1.5 crore in a single day, and Khadi Bhandar recorded sales of Rs 25 crore in a month. Additionally, a remarkable Rs 15 crore worth of Khadi was sold in just 14 days at Delhi's IITF, setting a new record.
