"Organic Farming Need of Hour, Stop Overusing Pesticides": Yogi Adityanath

After excessive use of chemical fertilizers during the periods of green revolution in most parts of the world, people have now realized that constant use of fertilizers causes long-term harm.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, said on Sunday that reducing the use of chemicals and pesticides is critical, particularly in Ganga-affected districts. "People pollute the environment for petty gain. There is a need to reduce the use of pesticides and chemicals, and instead promote organic farming," he said at an international seminar hosted by the department of agriculture at Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

The chief minister also paid a visit to the under-construction tent city in Varanasi and directed officials to finish the work there as soon as possible.

He surveyed the basic amenities at the tent city, where officials informed him that the entire premises would be free of liquor and meat. Tourists would only be served 'satvik' meals, they said, to avoid offending anyone's religious sensibilities.

Pesticides have the potential to contaminate soil, water, turf, and other vegetation. Pesticides, in addition to killing insects and weeds, can be toxic to a variety of other organisms such as birds, fish, beneficial insects, and non-target plants.

The main issue caused by pesticide use is that their residues persist in water and other environmental components because they are not easily degraded in the environment. Pesticides are sprayed on crop fields to protect them.

Green manure is used in natural farming because it contains nitrogen, phosphorus, and other nutrients that plants require to grow. Farmers can often save money by using manure as a fertilizer properly. Farmers can also sell manure or manure products to gardeners, landscapers, golf courses, and other plant-growing professionals.

Yogi Adityanath also reviewed preparations for a G20 meeting and presided over a meeting with officials to review the city's law and order situation. He also went to the Kashi Vishwanath temple to pray.
