PM Kisan 17th Installment: Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, shared the information about the release of the much-anticipated 17th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme today in a press conference. PM Modi will disburse the installment, amounting to around Rs 20,000 crore, during his visit to Varanasi on June 18, 2024. The event will be organized by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in coordination with the Uttar Pradesh government, and also include the distribution of certificates to over 30,000 self-help groups as Krishi Sakhis.

During the press conference, Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for his trust and support in the agriculture sector. Highlighting the critical role of agriculture in India's economy, Chouhan noted that agriculture is the foundation of the Indian economy, providing the majority of employment opportunities and ensuring the nation's granaries are full.

PM Kisan 17th installment Date Confirmed

The PM KISAN scheme, launched on February 24, 2019, aims to supplement the financial needs of all land-holding farmers with certain exclusions based on higher income status. To date, the government has disbursed over Rs 3.04 lakh crore to more than 11 crore farmers nationwide. The PM Kisan 17th installment will raise this total to over Rs 3.24 lakh crore, benefiting 9.26 crore farmers with a single click from the Prime Minister.

Chouhan highlighted the transparency in the registration and verification of beneficiaries under the PM KISAN scheme. The forthcoming installment underscores the government's commitment to the welfare of farmers, reflecting Prime Minister Modi's continued prioritization of agriculture.

The event on June 18 will also see extensive participation from various dignitaries, including the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and numerous other ministers from the state government. Union Ministers will visit 50 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) to engage with farmers and raise awareness about various governmental schemes.

Chouhan highlighted the role of Krishi Sakhis, trained female farmers acting as para-extension workers, who will be recognized during the event. These women, part of the larger goal to create three crore Lakhpati Didis, have been instrumental in supporting fellow farmers and earning additional income. As of now, over 34,000 Krishi Sakhis have been certified across 12 states.

The Union Minister also discussed other initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, which has provided financial security to over 4 crore farmers, and the ongoing provision of subsidized fertilizers despite global price surges.

The event will be broadcast live on multiple platforms, including DD, DD Kisan, MyGov, YouTube, and Facebook, ensuring farmers nationwide can participate. Chouhan urged farmers to join the program through any available medium to connect directly with the Prime Minister. The press conference was also attended by Manoj Ahuja, Secretary of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, and Himanshu Pathak, Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE).
