“Rally For Rivers”, this phrase has swayed the country and has colored the population blue. Started by Sadhguru of Isha foundation  to bring the problem of water overall in the much limelight has turned out to be quite effective and successful in snatching the population’s attention. Tweets like “ Everyone who consumes water must #RallyForRiver “ has grabbed eyeballs all over the world. “ Our rivers are dying , #RallyforRivers is a nationwide awareness  campaign to revive our rivers” is what quotes the website as its agenda.

India is water sufficient and has abundant sources of natural water sources. Having been blessed with the water, at the same land, we face the opposites : floods and draughts . Water sources have had been polluted by the escalating population, government has been promising solutions and bringing up new plans and schemes, but all in vain, just to see the rivers turning drain. The website states “Ganga, Krishna, Narmada, Kaveri – many of our great rivers are depleting fast. If we do not act now, the legacy we hand over to the next generation will be one of conflict and deprivation. These rivers nurtured and nourished us for thousands of years. It is time we nurture and nourish them back to health.”

“ This is not a protest. This is not an agitation. This is a campaign to raise awareness that our rivers are depleting. Everyone who consumes water must Rally For Rivers. “ –Sadhguru , it is how the whole campaign has been justified.

The campaign makes sure that each and every member of the society we live in, is equally addressed and way out off this conundrum is also portrayed. Maintaining a substantial number of trees for at least one kilometre width along the riversides has vast environmental, social and economic benefits for nation and society. Healthy river systems safeguard our water and food for the present and future generations. Secure water resources are essential for individual wellbeing and India’s industry and commerce. Farmers’ incomes increase at least three to four-fold by changing from crop to organic fruit tree cultivation. Farmers, who are the largest section of India’s workforce, are also among the lowest earning groups. Increasing their income will create a huge positive impact. This will also diversify and boost India’s rural economy significantly. Emphasis on government policy is also given.

To create awareness and initiate action on this national issue, Sadhguru has conceived “Rally for Rivers”, where he will be personally driving from Kanyakumari to the Himalayas. Sadhguru Ji would be covering 16 states, in 30 days, 7000 km in 23 events. Krishi Jagran supports and feels elated of such toils which is affirmative for the farmers and country’s agriculture and indeed is positive for the whole population in whole.
