A team of scientists led by Dr SK Sharma, ADG-ICAR, Delhi; Dr Biswajit Pramanick from RPCAU, Samastipur; and Dr BSSS Naik from MPUAT, Udaipur has introduced an innovative silicon application protocol for organic farming systems. This technology not only enhances crop productivity and quality but also addresses biotic and abiotic stresses, revolutionising farming practices across regions like Rajasthan, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. With over 10,000 farmers already reaping its benefits, the Silicon Application Protocol holds promise for a brighter, more sustainable future in agriculture.

Boosting Farmers' Income

Implemented by more than 10,000 farmers across Rajasthan, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh, the Silicon Application Protocol has emerged as a game-changer in the realm of organic farming. Spearheaded by Dr SK Sharma, the protocol offers a cost-effective solution to improve crop yield and quality, thereby enhancing farmers' income within organic farming systems.

Addressing Biotic and Abiotic Stresses

Dr Biswajit Pramanick highlights the added advantage of silicon application in alleviating both biotic and abiotic stresses on plants. This technology not only fosters healthier plant growth but also fortifies crops against various environmental challenges, ensuring more resilient farming practices.

Mission to Popularise

Dr Siddartha Naik is on a mission to democratise this affordable and novel technology further. With its simple formulation tailored for organic farming, the Silicon Application Protocol holds immense potential to transform agricultural landscapes, offering striking positive results in improving plant metabolism and farm yield.

Optimising Application

The Silicon Application Protocol recommends soil application ranging from 100 to 200 kg per hectare, catering to diverse crops and cultivators since 2008. Moreover, recent trials of foliar spray have shown promising results, enhancing leaf size, thickness, and quality, thus maximizing nutrient use efficiency across various crops.
