A protest is being done at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, in support of Wrestlers and against Brij Bhushan Singh, chief of the Wrestling Federation of India. Thousands of people have gathered at the popular protest site Jantar Mantar on Monday.
After popular wrestlers, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, Gurjit Kaur, who is legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh’s niece, stepped in to support the women wrestlers who were allegedly assaulted. In conversation with Krishi Jagran, she said that we are here in support of the wrestlers of our country who are known well across the world as they have won several medals and tournaments for India. She additionally said that each person found guilty should be punished by the court. She also urged people to raise their voices against unbearable situations. She ended her words with a hopeful quote “Desh me der hai, andher nahi hai” which means justice can be delayed but not denied.
In support of wrestlers and against sexual harassment, Abhimanyu Kohar, President of Bhartiya Kisan Naujawan Union and the member of Samyukta Kisan Morcha,said, "This is our earnest request to PM Narendra Modi to look into these wrestlers’ complaints, as they are the ones who made us proud by winning medals and are now, unfortunately, protesting for these many days.”
People from different parts of the world are joining the protest at Jantar Mantar to support wrestlers against sexual harassment. Priyanka Chaturvedi, who is a Member of Parliament Maharashtra and Deputy Leader of Shiv Sena, said that the women’s complaint needs to be registered immediately without asking further questions.
She also recalled the law of the country which states that the complaint should be registered without any question in case of women’s sexual harassment. Several instances have been seen in the past when women need to make an extra effort to get their complaints registered. She urged that the concerned administration should pay attention to such cases.
Dr Darshan Pal, President of Krantikari Kisan Union, Punjab, and the Member of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha said that wrestlers are the son of farmers, and farmers always motivate and support their children to be a wrestler or a Kabaddi players. Thus, we are here in support of this protest because we are the farmers, and we support wrestlers. We will independently protest against it.
