The government announced an increase in the subsidy for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries today.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur shared this information during a media briefing. The subsidy for LPG cylinders under the scheme has been raised from Rs 200 to Rs 300.
In September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a Union Cabinet meeting where it was decided to provide an additional 75 lakh LPG connections to women through the Ujjwala scheme. This expansion will be implemented over the next three years and is expected to cost Rs 1650 crore.
Under the existing Ujjwala 2.0 program, beneficiaries will continue to receive the first refill and a stove free of cost.
Additionally, a month ago, the Union Cabinet reduced the prices of LPG cylinders by Rs 200. In Delhi, this brought down the cost of a 14.2 kg cylinder from Rs 1,103 to Rs 903.
Ujjwala households also receive a targeted subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder, which will remain in place. As a result, the effective price for Ujjwala beneficiaries in Delhi after this reduction will be Rs 703 per cylinder.
It is important to note that there are over 31 crore domestic LPG consumers, with 9.6 crore of them being Ujjwala beneficiaries.
