Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh will inaugurate the conclave on "Dialogue for Holistic Development of the Livestock Sector in Northeast India," which is scheduled to take place in Shillong, Meghalaya, on January 23-24, 2025. The event, organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, will bring together key stakeholders from across the region to discuss strategies for the growth and development of the livestock and poultry sectors in the North East Region (NER).
The conclave will focus on the strategies for the comprehensive development of the livestock and poultry sector in the NER. The discussions aim to address the current status and challenges faced by the region’s livestock sector, explore growth opportunities, and encourage technological interventions and policy support. In addition to facilitating knowledge exchange, the event will promote sustainable farming practices aligned with the One Health approach.
A key highlight of the conclave will be the dedication of several projects to the people of NER, alongside the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with industry leaders to stimulate investment in the region’s livestock sector. The conclave also aims to foster capacity building for stakeholders, including farmers, entrepreneurs, researchers, and policy makers.
Government of India’s flagship schemes such as the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF), Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP), and the National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD) will be discussed as part of ongoing efforts to improve livestock productivity and ensure sustainable practices.
The conclave will include several prominent participants, such as Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, Minister of State for FAHD; George Kurian, Minister of State for FAHD and Minority Affairs; and Conrad K. Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya. Additionally, ministers from the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development departments of the NER states will also be in attendance.
Senior officials, including Alka Upadhyaya, Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, alongside principal secretaries from NER states, will also be part of the two-day dialogue. The event will also witness participation from key stakeholders including scientists, NGOs, entrepreneurs, and private sector players from livestock and poultry industries.
