WEATHER REPORT: Srinagar Airport Shuts Due to Heavy Snow for Second Consecutive Day

The Jammu-Srinagar highway has been closed on Monday due to the stockpiling of snow as the state has received rainfall for the two consecutive days. Srinagar airport has also suspended all the operations as the weather has become too harsh for flights to take off and land.

The Jammu-Srinagar highway has been closed on Monday due to the stockpiling of snow as the state has received rainfall for the two consecutive days. Srinagar airport has also suspended all the operations as the weather has become too harsh for flights to take off and land.

Many areas of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh are covered with snow due to heavy snowfall during the last 24 hours. A few areas in Uttarakhand have also witnessed immense rain and snowfall.

A disruption in normal life has been observed due to the accumulation of snow over roads in remote areas like Gurez in Bandipora district and Tangdhar in Kupwara district of Jammu & Kashmir.

According to a data, on Monday, Gulmarg received 27 cm of snow while areas like Pahalgam and Srinagar received 21.5 cm and 12 cm of snow, respectively, during 24-hour snowfall. A sharp decline in temperature follows the snowfall activities. The cold nights in Srinagar were recorded to have a freezing temperature of -1.8 degrees Celsius while the temperature in Gulmarg has gone down to -5 degrees Celsius.

Many parts of Uttarakhand is also expected to have more rain and snow fall until today afternoon. While people in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh  might breathe a sigh of relief as there are predictions of clearing up of weather, but there are still chances of isolated showers in the next 24 hours.

On the other hand, remaining part of the country remains dry.
