World Cancer Day 2020: Eating These Fruits & Vegetables Can Lower the Risk of Cancer

Just to know how deadliest of disease is cancer, here is a fact that will shock you. On an annual basis, almost 10 million people die from cancer. There are more than 100 types of cancer, and you never know which one can get you. So, in this case, precaution is a must.  


When it comes to taking precautions for cancer, eating habits can play a huge role. Many of you would not know that eating certain fruits and vegetables can help you in lowering the risks of cancer. Every year on the 4th of February, World Cancer Day 2020 is celebrated across the world to create awareness about life-threatening 'cancer'. On this day, Krishi Jagran brings to you a list of fruits and vegetables that can lower the boom on symptoms of cancer. 


Cancer Preventing Foods 


An edible green plant, broccoli looks like a greener version of cauliflower. Sulforaphane is an element that has potent anti-cancer properties. This element is largely abundant in broccoli. According to a study, a higher intake of broccoli can lower the risk of colorectal cancer. 



According to a recent study, it has been revealed that eating carrots lowers the risk of a type of stomach cancer by up to 26%. That's why many cancer patients are suggested to eat carrots when they are in their initial stage. 


Beans (Rajma) 

Beans consist of fiber and antioxidants. Both of these elements are considered as anti-cancer elements and that's why beans are referred to cancer patients. Some varieties of beans like pinto and red kidney beans (rajma) are considered as an anti-cancer food. 


Cinnamon (Dalchini) 

Cinnamon for cancer treatment is widely studied across the world. One of the most common spices that can be found in your kitchen is Cinnamon, which has elements that can reduce the growth of cancer cells and are used to form blood vessels in tumors. Cinnamon acts as a toxic element to cancer cells.  


Dry fruits 

The consumption of dry fruits is considered to be helpful for reducing the risk of a type of cancer called 'colon cancer'. Consuming nuts can lower inflammation, which is one of the causes of cancer. Dry fruits like almond and groundnuts are anti-cancer and hence can be eaten to be away from the symptoms of cancer. 


Olive Oil 

Olive oil is not only used for glazing the food delicacies but it also has so many health benefits. With anti-oxidant properties, olive oil can be used to reduce the risks of cancer to a great extent. It is believed that Mediterranean cities have lower risks of some types of cancer because they use loads of olive oil in their diet.  


Flax seeds 

Flax seeds are known to be a revolutionary element to reduce the risks of cancer. That's because it is very abundant in lignans. Lignan is a plant compound, which has high properties of antioxidants and estrogen and can reduce the risks of cancer.
