The liver is a vital organ in the human body. It filters the blood that exits the stomach and intestine and then breaks down, regulates, and produces nutrients in the blood, as well as digesting drugs into forms that are easier for the human body to use or are harmless. As a result, it is critical that we take good care of our liver.

Every year on April 19th, World Liver Day is observed to recognize the importance of a healthy liver and to raise awareness about it. The liver is a vital organ in the human body.

This World Liver Day we will focus on ways to keep our livers healthy and functioning properly.

World Liver Day 2022: THEME

Last year the theme for World Liver Day was, ‘keep your liver healthy and disease-free.’ This year the theme of the day has not been declared on the official website yet.


The day is important because liver problems are the tenth leading cause of death in India. And the day is dedicated to making people aware of the importance of taking care of their liver by adopting a healthy lifestyle that includes avoiding oily and greasy foods.

Following the pandemic, there were numerous problems associated with liver functionality, such as loss of appetite, abdominal pain, jaundice, weight loss, and so on.

Maintaining the liver is critical because it plays an important role in the digestive system.

Below mentioned are some tips to keep your liver healthy:

  • It is crucial to consume garlic, grapefruit, carrots, green leafy vegetables, apples, and walnuts.

  • Including turmeric in your diet will be beneficial.

  • The use of olive oil is good for your health.

  • Include cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower in your diet.

  • Exercising regularly will help regulate blood and can also reduce liver fat.

  • Don’t share personal hygiene items.

  • Though acetaminophen is the most common medication that can harm your liver, other medications can as well, especially if you don’t take them as prescribed. So, take your medications right.

  • Don’t drink a lot of alcohol. It has the potential to harm liver cells and cause swelling or scarring.

  • Cigarette additives may be harmful to your liver, so quit smoking.
