  • IMD Issues Cold Wave Alert In Three States

    Parts of north India, including Punjab and Rajasthan, are expected to be hit by a cold wave during the next several days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Meanwhile, substantial rainfall is forecast in several parts of the country during the next few days as a result of new Western Disturbances. Two new Western Disturbances are expected to hit northwest India, the first starting on January 16th and causing isolated to scattered precipitation on the 16th and 17th; the second starting on January 18th and causing light/moderate scattered to fairly widespread precipitation over Western Himalayan Region and light isolated to scattered rainfall over adjoining plains for the next 2-3 days, according to IMD.

  • India Appeals WTO Panel Ruling On Sugar Subsidies

    India has filed an appeal with the World Trade Organization's trade dispute settlement panel over a verdict on domestic sugar subsidies, claiming that the panel made "some legal errors" in its findings, the WTO announced on Tuesday. India filed an appeal with the World Trade Organization's Appellate Body, which is the last authority on trade disputes. "India has notified the Dispute Settlement Body of its decision to appeal the panel reports in the 'India - Measures Concerning Sugar and Sugarcane' disputes lodged by Brazil, Australia, and Guatemala," the WTO said in a statement.
