Sugar markets have faced record high crop production leading to a heavy surplus weighing on global sugar prices. While consumer concerns and economic downturns are affecting market demand. 

Sugarcane-derived ethanol provides one outlet for sugar producers. Ethanol demand is rising due to a global push for cleaner-ethanol blended gasoline. However, sugar producers face stiff competition from inexpensive US corn-based ethanol imports at the ports and consumer skepticism at the pumps. With the market in flux what can we expect for 2020 and beyond?
