Agri Intex 2019 Starts in Coimbatore Today

‘Agri Intex 2019’ - an annual agriculture trade fair organised by Codissia in cooperation with the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) will be held from 12 to 15 July 2019 at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex in Coimbatore.

 ‘Agri Intex 2019’ - an annual agriculture trade fair organised by Codissia in cooperation with the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) will be held from 12 to 15 July 2019 at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex in Coimbatore.

Agri Intex 2019 will mainly focus on implements as well as technologies that can be used by small & medium-scale farmers. The exhibition will also feature live demonstrations of sustainable farming practices, soil-less agriculture and farm mechanisation, among other things.

Chairman of Agri Intex, N. Krishnaraj told media that as many as 450 companies will participate in the exhibition this year. Around 10 participants are overseas companies. The trade fair will have a pavilion to exhibit rainwater harvesting and check dam models & few of these are entitled for subsidy from the Government. The main challenges faced by the agriculture sector at present are labour and water shortage so farmers need some tools and technologies to overcome these challenges.

In India, most of the land holdings are small scale hence farming on small plots need to be encouraged. Companies from Japan and Korea will showcase products that will enable small-scale farming. A group of firms from Beijing will be visiting the expo tomorrow 13 July, 2019 and they are looking at joint ventures. Another focus area of the event is Dairy Farming sector.

President of Codissia, R. Ramamurthi said that the expo is expected to generate business worth Rs. 200 crore. Coimbatore is the center of micro, small & medium-scale enterprises and these units have chances to tap in the agriculture sector by developing implements for cultivators. A conference on Uzhave Uyarvu will also be organised on 13 July while another on “Next Generation Dairying” will be held on 14 July.

Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, N. Kumar, said the TNAU will exhibit new varieties & technologies at the exhibition. It will also create awareness on agri-business. He said, “Many non-agri graduates are attracted to farming. We conduct courses for them via open education. These details will also be available at the expo”. He added that “This year, water is a big challenge in many regions hence we need to focus on it. As the number of rainy days is reducing, we need to plan & manage water”.
