Around 7.6 Crore Farmers Receive PM-Kisan Benefits; 20% Beneficiaries from Uttar Pradesh; Full Details Inside

According to latest reports, around 7.6 crore farmers have received the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme till 30th November. Interestingly, more than 20% of the beneficiaries are from the state of Uttar Pradesh.

According to latest reports, around 7.6 crore farmers have received the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme till 30th November. Interestingly, more than 20% of the beneficiaries are from the state of Uttar Pradesh.

The Central government had implemented PM-Kisan yojana, an income support scheme for farmers of the country so that they can manage expenses related to agriculture & allied activities as well as domestic needs, with effect from 1st December 2018.

PM-Kisan yojana provides all the eligible beneficiaries Rs. 6,000 a year, in three instalments of Rs. 2,000 each.

Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmer Welfare in a written reply in the Lok Sabha told that 7.6 crore farmers received financial benefit under PM-Kisan yojana till 30th November. Tomar's reply had estimated the number of holdings for transfer of benefits at 14 crore till 30th November.

Agriculture minister further gave State-wise break-up of the PM-Kisan beneficiaries. As per that list, the number of beneficiaries from UP stood at 1.70 crore, accounting for about 22.37% of total number of the beneficiaries. Uttar Pradesh was followed by Maharashtra at 70.47 lakh or 9.26% and Karnataka at 46.91 lakh or 6.16%.

As many as 32.81 lakh beneficiaries from the North-East States received the benefit of PM-Kisan scheme till last month. Of the total 7.6 crore beneficiaries, 5.96 crore were from general category (Gen), 92 lakh from the Scheduled Castes (SC) category & 72.55 lakh were from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.

In addition, the share of beneficiaries from the Scheduled Tribe category stood at 99.59% in Nagaland, 97% in Meghalaya, 95.43% in Mizoram, 84.27% in Manipur & 52.97% in Tripura.

There was no beneficiary from SC category in Punjab till 30 November.

Tomar added that Rs. 75,000 crore was allocated for PM-Kisan yojana for the year 2019-20 and around Rs. 35,000 crore has been distributed so far.

However, data available on the ‘PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi’ website says that total number of beneficiaries stood at 8.45 crore as on 20th December. Of this, Uttar Pradesh accounted for a major share of 1.92 crore beneficiaries. Next in line are Maharashtra (79.59 lakh); Rajasthan (56.11 lakh); Madhya Pradesh (53.45 lakh); Andhra Pradesh (50.76 lakh) & Bihar (50.45 lakh).
