First Agrochemicals Congress: Country's Status on Various Fronts of Agrochemicals to be Held From 13-16 November

The growing world population is estimated to reach 9.1 billion by the year 2050. This increased population density is projected to raise the demand for food production by 70% in developing countries. The availability of additional agricultural land & resources are limited. The reduction of current yield losses due to pests is a major challenge. Here chemical pesticides will continue to play a role in pest management as more & more target specific and environment friendly products are being introduced. The benefits of pesticide use are high relative to their risks. New concepts in crops, human health, resource management, nanotechnology, smart formulations & related sciences are likely to increase agricultural productivity. With this background, current status of agrochemicals on various fronts will be collated for researchers & policy makers in order to grow agriculture in a sustainable manner.

The Society of Pesticide Science India will organize the 1st Agrochemicals Congress: Country's Status on Various Fronts of Agrochemicals from 13-16 November, 2019 at Dr. B. P. Pal Auditorium, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi.

The congress is aimed at exchanging the most up-to-date knowledge between scientists, R&D personnel, extension workers, students and policy makers in the relevant crucial areas of agrochemicals, as well as for identifying knowledge and technological gaps that exist in the field. The congress is aimed to invite eminent speakers so that they bring the latest science, top-tier agricultural research and leading industry perspectives to the forum. We are expecting around 300 delegates from all over the country to participate in the event.

To inaugurate the congress, Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Kailash Chaudhary, Minister of State for Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare, will be present on Nov 14, 2019 at 2:30 pm.

The Society of Pesticide Science India (SPS India) was formed as a national Society on 25th September, 1987 with its Headquarters at the Division of Agricultural Chemicals, ICAR - Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi and formally launched and inaugurated on November 16, 1989. The objective of the society is to provide a forum to scientists for expressing critical views based on scientific knowledge and rational thinking on important national policies and programmes related to pesticides, allied agrochemicals and related fields and to create awareness among masses on the role of pesticides and allied agrochemicals in agriculture, public health and human welfare. The society always promoted judicious use of pesticides and allied chemicals with a view to maximizing crop production vis a vis minimizing environmental pollution and health hazard. It also publishes Pesticide Research Journal with NAAS rating 5.90. As on date there are 630 life members and 70 ordinary members representing premier research institutions, public universities and 28 corporate members from industries.
