Good News! Government Offering 75 Percent Subsidy on Pests, Diseases and Weeds Control

Around 15 to 20 percent of crops in India get damaged due to pests, diseases, and weeds. On the other hand, locusts or Fall Armyworm (FAW) sometimes destroy the whole crop along with the hard work, time and money of farmers. To prevent such type of damage, the government has come up with a solution to relieve the farmer’s tragedy. For this purpose, the pest/disease control scheme has been implemented by the Uttar Pradesh government to relieve the farmers from this depressing situation.

Around 15 to 20 percent of crops in India get damaged due to pests, diseases, and weeds. On the other hand, locusts or Fall Armyworm (FAW) sometimes destroy the whole crop along with the hard work, time and money of farmers. To prevent such type of damage, the government has come up with a solution to relieve the farmer’s tragedy. For this purpose, the pest/disease control scheme has been implemented by the Uttar Pradesh government to relieve the farmers from this depressing situation. 

As per reports, the center has decided to allow a 70 percent subsidy under the pest/disease control scheme.  

What is Pest/Disease Control yojana? 

Under the Pest/Disease Control Scheme, the government is giving subsidy to all small and marginal farmers including Scheduled Castes, Tribes and women in every category in Uttar Pradesh for seed treatment and other workers.  

Benefits of Pest/Disease Control yojana:  

The benefit of this scheme is being extended to the farmers through development block level agricultural defense unit, which is as follows:  

  • 75% subsidy on bio-pesticides / bio-agents up to a maximum of Rs. 500 per hectare.

  • 75% subsidy on seedling chemicals for seed rearing, maximum Rs 150 per hectare.

  • 50 percent subsidy on agricultural defense chemicals maximum Rs 500 per hectare.

  • Apart from this, a 50 percent subsidy is being given on agricultural defense equipment. If the farmer's machine is manned then the maximum subsidy is Rs 1500 per machine.

  • For food security, a maximum of Rs. 1500 per bakery is given on 50, 3 and 2 quintals of goat.

Eligibility for Subsidy

Farmers of all classes and categories of the district for seed processing and small and marginal farmers which includes scheduled caste/scheduled tribes and women, farmers, for other works are eligible for the grant.

Arrangements for Distribution of Farm Protection Chemicals

Benefits of grant admissible on bio-pesticides/bio-agents, seed processing chemicals and plant protection chemicals under the scheme,60 % by Department of Agriculture,30% by U.P. Agro and 10% by Cooperative Department is payable to the farmers. Application letter of the farmers for the grant and Grant Distribution Register in which details of name and address, category of the farmers, amount of grant and farmer’s share is entered. The beneficiary signs on the register. Distribution of grant is verified by Regional Staff. The register is seen by the concerned officer fortnightly and report is sent to the directorate fortnightly. Guidelines issued by the Government are followed in the distribution of grants.
