Need for Faster Adoption of Water Management, Aquaculture & Gender-Friendly Technologies at Farmers’ Fields: Secretary ICAR

Additional Secretary (DARE) & Secretary (ICAR), Sanjay Kumar Singh visited the ICAR-Indian Institute of Water Management in Bhubaneswar. Singh chaired the Review Meeting of on-going research activities of Bhubaneswar based ICAR Institutes namely - ICAR-Indian Institute of Water Management, ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture and ICAR-Central Institute of Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar. He stressed on the need for faster adoption of water management, aquaculture and gender-friendly technologies at the farmers’ fields on large scale.

Singh chaired the Review Meeting of on-going research activities of Bhubaneswar based ICAR Institutes namely - ICAR-Indian Institute of Water Management, ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture and ICAR-Central Institute of Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar. He stressed on the need for faster adoption of water management, aquaculture and gender-friendly technologies at the farmers’ fields on large scale. 

During the interaction with the Directors of the Institutes on research and financial progress, he emphasized on embedding the proven ICAR technologies with the government schemes like Jal Shakti Abhiyan. He also urged to carry out the economic analysis of water management interventions like groundwater recharge filters, raised and sunken bed and ICAR flexi rubber check dams at different levels, that is, the limited scale adoption and large scale adoption. Singh stressed on the need for anchoring, integration and digitization of all information of technologies along with the capacity building of Krishi Vigyan Kendra functionaries and women Sarpanch.

He reviewed the progress of on-going field experiments during his visit to the ICAR-IIWM Research Farm, Deras, Khordha. He also released the Annual Report of All India Coordinated Research Project on Irrigation Water Management for the period - 2018-19.

A total of 40 scientists and officials of ICAR-IIWM, ICAR-CIFA and ICAR-CIWA attended the meeting.
