PM Kisan Yojana: Government Transferred Rs 21,924 crore to Over 10 crore Farmers This Fiscal

PM Kisan scheme covers all landholding farmers, irrespective of the size of their landholding, subject to certain exclusion criteria linked to higher income groups.

Under PM Kisan Yojana, the Centre gives Rs 6,000 to eligible farmers every year

The government on Tuesday said that financial assistance worth Rs 21,924 crore has been transferred into bank accounts of over 10 crore eligible farmers under the PM Kisan Yojana so far this year.

The information was given by Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Agriculture Minister. He informed the Lok Sabha that Rs 21,924 crore was transferred till July 17 to the PM Kisan beneficiaries in the ongoing 2022-23 financial year.

According to the data presented in the Lower House, out of the total amount, Rs 5,063.25 crore was given to eligible beneficiaries in Uttar Pradesh, Rs 2,053 crore to farmers in Maharashtra, Rs 1,684 crore was transferred in Bihar, and Rs 1,680 crore in Madhya Pradesh till now in FY2022-23.

The government had transferred Rs 55,101 crore to more than 9 crore farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana during the launch year i.e., 2020-21. In the year 2021 to 2022, Rs 66,483 crore was disbursed to 10.64 crore farmers under the scheme.

The minister said that the release of financial benefits under PM Kisan Yojana is a continuous & ongoing process.

Farmers are given the benefits under the scheme after proper verification of data by the respective state governments.

The scheme covers all landholding farmers, irrespective of the size of their landholding, subject to certain exclusion criteria linked to higher income groups. According to the Operational Guidelines of PM Kisan Yojana, the entire responsibility for the identification of beneficiaries lies with the respective State or UT Governments.

PM Kisan website has been integrated with PFMS, UIDAI, Income tax portals and Pensioners & Employee Record for validation or weeding out of ineligible beneficiaries. If the benefits are sent to ineligible beneficiaries then it is recovered by respective state governments after due verification.

Under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, the Centre provides a financial benefit of Rs 6,000 to eligible farmers every year. The amount is paid in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 each. Moreover, the money is transferred directly to the bank accounts of beneficiaries.

PM Kisan scheme is one of the most ambitious schemes of the Central Government still many farmers in the country are not able to take its benefit due to unawareness. A farmer from a small village in Jharkhand’s Gumla district on condition of anonymity told that he and many others in his village are not aware of this scheme.
