The Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi once said, “True India resides in the villages and that rural India has a crucial role to play in India’s economic growth as 70% of India’s population stays in villages.” Not just that rural areas have numerous business opportunities to explore.

People in villages are engaged in retail, livestock, trading, and manufacturing, as well as contributing to the agricultural industry. Village entrepreneurs, whether small or large, have plenty of opportunity to start, grow, extend, and flourish their businesses.

Small Business Ideas for Rural India

Below we have given the list of businesses that you can easily start in villages with government loans;

Flour Mill

The development of a flour mill or Atta Chakki is an option worth considering. There is no shortage of raw material (cereal) for flour mills in rural areas, and people do not buy packaged flour from markets as they do in metropolitan areas. If you grind other grains like corn, oats, barley, sorghum, and spices like turmeric, chilli, and other spices in addition to wheat, it's a highly viable and profitable company.

The flour mill can also profitably supply products to adjacent cities and towns. It is a good business that requires little money to start but a solid electrical connection to run.

Small scale Manufacturing Units:

Rural and small-town settings are perfect for setting up small-scale manufacturing plants to meet local demand while also supplying items to adjacent towns and cities. These manufacturing units can be used to make a variety of items, including:

  • Matchbox/AgarbattiCandle

  • Cup/plate made of paper

  • Corrugated Card board Box

  • Disposable Bags etc.

In one of the pervious articles we have explained the whole business plan for manufacturing & selling of Cardboards.

These items have a wide market in metropolitan regions, but raw materials are plentiful in rural areas, allowing for a profitable business with quick returns.

Fertilizer and Pesticides Store

Because agriculture is such a big part of the rural economy, starting a fertilizer/pesticide business makes a lot of sense. Before launching a business, you must first obtain a license. Check the complete procedure, application fees & eligibility criteria to obtain the fertilizer & pesticides selling license. Additionally, you can store seed, fertilizer, and insecticides.

Dairy Farm /Milk Center

Running a milk centre is a good business idea in rural locations because milk is abundantly available. The amount of money needed to start the centre is smaller, but the individual running it must be qualified. Only by partnering with a dairy farm can you collect and supply milk. To launch a local dairy enterprise, you'll need funding from a variety of sources, including banks and non-bank financial companies. Not just that even government provides 33% Subsidy for starting a dairy farm.

Organically Grown Fruits and Vegetables

The market for organic fruits and vegetables is rapidly expanding, and living near villages and small towns provides a viable business opportunity to begin growing and marketing the goods. It is not, however, simple. You can even export fruits & vegetables and earn good profits.
